Abstraction
Recently I have been working in the flow of abstraction. I am exploring this intuitive path of form, light and colour within the context of natural landscape forms. I am also contemplating the word intuitive … Is intuition developed with experience and knowledge? How does one know where to put that next mark? In this light I believe that intuition or perhaps artistic intuition is part of our experience; a discerning feeling. Is this abstraction ? A thought to contemplate.
I focus on expedient energy, a pattern of movement that has become my mark making. I have a certain cadence, pattern and rhythm that is somehow connected to my arm. I am energized by the landscape ; the colour, form and light are continually changing as we do.
I find that my process isn’t fixed. That being said I do create an underpainting of sorts. Not a stiff drawing but a swooping gestural drawing with loose paint or watered down medium. This is to establish the composition. Then the colour arrives!!
Lots of help hanging my recent group show. The show is called Layered Landscape - responding to Where We Live. the photo is called. Hanging Husbands.
